Abstract

The spatial distribution of many economic activities (commercial, industrial, and service-related) has been strongly associated with main roads, a relationship that remains evident today and is increasingly pronounced in land use patterns adjacent to roads in contemporary urban plans.

This study examines the nature, scale, and pattern of the linear distribution of these activities along both sides of the (main) costal highway in the Misrata region.

The study analyzes the qualitative distribution of commercial and industrial activities associated with the main road in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of patterns of convergence and distancing, as well as the key factors shaping these patterns. It also identifies the size of the workforce operating these activities and explores the reciprocal impacts both positive and negative between the road and the adjacent commercial and industrial activities.

Based on the survey and analysis of the distribution of commercial and industrial activities within the study area, the research arrives at a set of findings and practical recommendations that offer academic and applied value for urban planners, local authorities, and regional development policymakers.
